Thanks to a donation amounting to JPY 5.5 billion (equivalent to approximately USD 53 million) from Bristol Myers Squibb K.K., as well as subsidies from the Japanese government, the construction of the main building of the Center for Cancer Immunotherapy and Immunobiology (CCII) will soon commence at the Kyoto University Faculty of Medicine Campus. To honor this contribution, the Building will be named the “Bristol Myers Squibb Building at the Center for Cancer Immunotherapy and Immunobiology”.
The appearance of the Bristol Myers Squibb Building is based on the design by Tadao Ando, an internationally renowned Japanese architect. His layout design for the building incorporates two key elements: a “circular design” that symbolizes immune cells, and the “building’s color scheme”, representing a cell membrane. This symbolic appearance perfectly aligns with the mission of the building as the new home for the first comprehensive research center in Japan dedicated to cancer immunotherapy research.
Construction of the Building is scheduled to be completed in 2024.
